I don’t read blogs

I really don’t read blogs. My wife, however, has several she follows regularly and sometimes she’ll get me to read one. I read one (change the world {day 12} :: know what makes you cry) by Emily Freeman that she recommended and the idea has stuck with me.

If you’ve been around me for any amount of time you know 2 facts about me. First, most food doesn’t sit well with me. Second, I will cry.

I preached a sermon once that was about 4 minutes long. I introduced the sermon and everything was ok. I told the first illustration and fell apart. I tried to hold it together, but it was hopeless. I asked the pianist to come up, the congregation started singing, and I sat down.

I had a communion thought that made me cry in the Family Service earlier this year. A kid asked a brilliant question and Sunday Night Kids and the answer had me in tears. I have seen loss that I don’t like to talk about that breaks me up. I watch tv shows where people say or do incredible things that push me over the emotional edge. Don’t even get me started on watching the Broadway production of The Lion King . . .

Freeman’s blog made me think quite a bit. I wonder what these events have in common that sparks a passion that I can’t hold inside. I wonder about those poor people who never [admit they] cry. Most of all, I wonder what it was about Lazarus and his family that brought Jesus to tears in John 11.

I really hope I’ll find out that I’m crying about the same things as Jesus. I hope all of us will get so inspired that we tap into our passions and do something to make a positive change in our little part of the world.

I feel ya Chris! Grown men cry and aren’t ashamed. Thanks for the thoughts!
